Please answer the following questions, print a hard copy INCLUDING YOUR NAME, and submit at the beginning of the final exam period listed in your syllabus. Final exams are often scheduled at a different time than classes were held during the semester.
100 points possible. Each question is worth 10 points.
Exam Questions:
1) List 3 things you think the course was designed to teach. What activities and assignments helped teach those?
2) List 5 things you learned in this class that you will remember one year from now.
3) Explain the power and impact of public speaking using an example from class discussion, a classmate's speech or your own presentations.
4) Identify one concept from this class that applies to personal relationships--family, friends, significant other. Describe in detail how you have applied or will apply the concept.
5) Explain how one concept from this class applies to contexts outside of the University such as work or volunteer opportunities. Then, provide an example of how you have applied or will apply the concept. Do not discuss a concept that you selected as an answer to a different question.
6) Discuss how the variety of perspectives, ideas, opinions and values expressed in this class impacted your experience and what you learned.
7) What impact does the audience’s listening behavior have on a speaker? What can you do as an audience member to positively impact the speaker and the presentation? Provide two examples of unethical listening behaviors that you saw or experienced this semester (in this class or other public speaking situations) and explain how each behavior should be changed.
8) Why is audience analysis and adaptation an important part of public speaking? Describe a specific example from class presentations that demonstrates the effect audience analysis can have. Name at least one other context (other than public speaking) in which audience analysis and adaptation is important.
9) In your opinion, what assignment or class activity was the most helpful to you in developing your public speaking skills? Describe what and how it helped you improve as a speaker.

The media and communications sector has significantly expanded and developed in regards to diversity and dynamics. This course was, therefore, developed to teach human communication in different types of environments and contexts. In addition, to teach the knowledge and competencies relevant in oral, written, and visual communication including communication technologies relevant for the global marketplace. Finally, it was designed to teach social interactions in different settings. The small-group or team-based oral work, the full-class discussions, speeches and presentations and the writing of argumentative essays were critical it teaching these areas.

From this oral communication class, I will remember the preparation and presentation ofspeeches, how to work in groups and how to engage in argumentative discussions. In addition, proper interpersonal skills in regards to communication and, finally, the ethical issues associated with communication.

Public speaking is powerful as it captures the audience and magic like events occur once the presenter takes the stage to speak, and the audience likes the speech. The people pay attention and become open to the ideas that would otherwise been ignored in normal settings. Public speaking provides the speakerwith a new persona that captures the attention of the audience, and they become followers who want to connect with the presentation’s content and the speaker beyond the speech. Therefore, the can persuade individuals to rake certain actions, it can pertinent provide information to the audience, it can entertain the audience, and develop skills on critical thinking. In addition, public speaking it fine tunes the verbal and non-verbal skills and other skills for public speaking. For instance, the speech by Saif Ali-Ibrahim was informative as it provided the various arguments that exist in sports business on whether college athletes should be paid or not.

In the oral communications class, there were different concepts that were introduced and taught in the class. However, the concept of communication and culture was most significant in regards to application to my friends. While communicating to my friends from different cultures, I would consider the elements of communication that is verbal or non-verbal such as facial expressions and gestures to ensure that I communicate the correct message. In addition, I will take into consideration my posture while talking to such friends as different cultures have different interpretations of the verbal and non-verbal communications.

Another concept within the oral communications class the concept of barriers to communication was also present. Barriers to oralcommunication were explained and highlightedwith among the most important barriers being the physical condition of the individual the communication is being made (the receiver). As a local community hospital volunteer, I constantly work with disabled individuals. The disabilities range from mental to physical. Therefore, I will take into consideration the fact that these individuals require different approaches to communication. For instance, I will learn basic sign language to allow me communicate with the deaf individuals within the community hospital. In addition, i will ensure that I learn any elements of communication that might seem to be offensive to the group I work with to ensure proper care and treatment outcomes.

The class has highlighted various aspects that are related to communication that have greatly impacted the previous ideas regarding communication and how communication should be approached or done. I have learned that the way we communicate varies depending on the audience and the environment and that the content being communicated should be suited to fit the specific audience. Moreover, I started the class as a nervous wreck when it came to publicspeaking; however, I have developed confidence and competency not only in speech preparation, but also presentation.

During public speaking, the speaker often greatly influences the audience. However, the audience may also impact the speaker. The audience may evoke certain behavior that may positively or negatively influence the not only the speaker’s behavior, but also the perception held about the speaker. For instance, the audience’s behavior may make the speaker nervous bring down the confidence levels of the speaker. Moreover, the audience may make the speaker reduce the depth of delivery of the message by eliminating some key points within the information being communicated. Finally, the audience may also make the speaker change the approach to presentation or the topic being presented.
