Renewable Sources of Energy
Renewable energy sources have become a common trend in the energy market in the UK and other countries across Europe and the world in general. Over the years, there have been credible threats on the depletion of existing oil reserves. Supported by the constant rise in oil prices and occasionally low supply in some regions across the globe. It goes to the fact that oil is the leading source of energy in the world. Most of the existing technologies today depend upon oil for the daily operations of their machinery. For instance electricity, the majority of the countries require diesel to run the massive electrical turbines which in turn generate electricity in many sectors of the economy. This essay is going to give a view on the use of renewable energy sources in homes and the challenges involved in this endeavor. The two primary energy sources in use today are wind power technology and ocean energy technology. First, we will take a closer look at the available wind power technologies employed in particular locations in the UK. This paper will take a look at the wind power technology in terms of its background, design, location and feasibility ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"eJpneZkn","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Jacobson et al., 2015)","plainCitation":"(Jacobson et al., 2015)"},"citationItems":[{"id":380,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/3VMXMEX4"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/3VMXMEX4"],"itemData":{"id":380,"type":"article-journal","title":"100% clean and renewable wind, water, and sunlight (WWS) all-sector energy roadmaps for the 50 United States","container-title":"Energy & Environmental Science","page":"2093–2117","volume":"8","issue":"7","source":"Google Scholar","author":[{"family":"Jacobson","given":"Mark Z."},{"family":"Delucchi","given":"Mark A."},{"family":"Bazouin","given":"Guillaume"},{"family":"Bauer","given":"Zack AF"},{"family":"Heavey","given":"Christa C."},{"family":"Fisher","given":"Emma"},{"family":"Morris","given":"Sean B."},{"family":"Piekutowski","given":"Diniana JY"},{"family":"Vencill","given":"Taylor A."},{"family":"Yeskoo","given":"Tim W."}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2015"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Jacobson et al., 2015).
Wind Energy Technology
Introduction and Technology
The Wind is not a new energy resource but a valuable resource that existed freely for centuries. The Wind is a readily available resource that blows around and previous generations used in their operations of various domestic and economic activities ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"OTYmvyyv","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Mercer, 2016)","plainCitation":"(Mercer, 2016)"},"citationItems":[{"id":383,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/SPARJBQS"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/SPARJBQS"],"itemData":{"id":383,"type":"thesis","title":"Barriers to renewable energy development in Newfoundland and Labrador: a case study of wind energy applying the'AKTESP'framework for analysis","publisher":"Memorial University of Newfoundland","source":"Google Scholar","URL":"http://research.library.mun.ca/12406/","shortTitle":"Barriers to renewable energy development in Newfoundland and Labrador","author":[{"family":"Mercer","given":"Nicholas"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2016"]]},"accessed":{"date-parts":[["2017",3,30]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Mercer, 2016). In ancient China, windmills were for pumping water in wells, and the vertical axis types were of great importance in Persia and other regions of the Middle East for grinding purposes of the collected grains from the harvests. This show the great service wind has offered to the societies in the past and turn propelled the current growth and technologies that exist ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"OTYmvyyv","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Mercer, 2016)","plainCitation":"(Mercer, 2016)"},"citationItems":[{"id":383,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/SPARJBQS"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/SPARJBQS"],"itemData":{"id":383,"type":"thesis","title":"Barriers to renewable energy development in Newfoundland and Labrador: a case study of wind energy applying the'AKTESP'framework for analysis","publisher":"Memorial University of Newfoundland","source":"Google Scholar","URL":"http://research.library.mun.ca/12406/","shortTitle":"Barriers to renewable energy development in Newfoundland and Labrador","author":[{"family":"Mercer","given":"Nicholas"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2016"]]},"accessed":{"date-parts":[["2017",3,30]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Mercer, 2016). By the beginning of the 11th century, communities across the Middle East had considerably acquired the use of windmills largely for food production. The use brought about the economic value of wind technology which later greatly appreciated by the people of ancient times. Later on, the Dutch came about and developed an interest in the use of wind technology and used it in the Rhine River Delta. After this, the use of windmills to pump water became a common practice on farms and the real ranchers for water generation.
Today there exists several types of wind energy technologies that are readily available for use in homes and can power over 10000 homes in the UK. The most popular of them is the Vertical Axis Wind Turbines: this wind energy technology has become the preferred choice in modern homes and inner cities due to its flexibility over its rival, the Horizontal Wind Axis Turbine ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"eJpneZkn","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Jacobson et al., 2015)","plainCitation":"(Jacobson et al., 2015)"},"citationItems":[{"id":380,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/3VMXMEX4"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/3VMXMEX4"],"itemData":{"id":380,"type":"article-journal","title":"100% clean and renewable wind, water, and sunlight (WWS) all-sector energy roadmaps for the 50 United States","container-title":"Energy & Environmental Science","page":"2093–2117","volume":"8","issue":"7","source":"Google Scholar","author":[{"family":"Jacobson","given":"Mark Z."},{"family":"Delucchi","given":"Mark A."},{"family":"Bazouin","given":"Guillaume"},{"family":"Bauer","given":"Zack AF"},{"family":"Heavey","given":"Christa C."},{"family":"Fisher","given":"Emma"},{"family":"Morris","given":"Sean B."},{"family":"Piekutowski","given":"Diniana JY"},{"family":"Vencill","given":"Taylor A."},{"family":"Yeskoo","given":"Tim W."}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2015"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Jacobson et al., 2015). Wind Turbines operate on a simple concept due to the pure nature of the energy that they use the wind. Given the right prevailing conditions are in place for its operation, these machines operate very swiftly and offer clean, renewable energy without any waste or damage to the environment. A Wind Turbine consists of few movable parts which make it very easy to operate and easily accessible or replaced in case of any injuries ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"eJpneZkn","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Jacobson et al., 2015)","plainCitation":"(Jacobson et al., 2015)"},"citationItems":[{"id":380,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/3VMXMEX4"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/3361939/items/3VMXMEX4"],"itemData":{"id":380,"type":"article-journal","title":"100% clean and renewable wind, water, and sunlight (WWS) all-sector energy roadmaps for the 50 United States","container-title":"Energy & Environmental Science","page":"2093–2117","volume":"8","issue":"7","source":"Google Scholar","author":[{"family":"Jacobson","given":"Mark Z."},{"family":"Delucchi","given":"Mark A."},{"family":"Bazouin","given":"Guillaume"},{"family":"Bauer","given":"Zack AF"},{"family":"Heavey","given":"Christa C."},{"family":"Fisher","given":"Emma"},{"family":"Morris","given":"Sean B."},{"family":"Piekutowski","given":"Diniana JY"},{"family":"Vencill","given":"Taylor A."},{"family":"Yeskoo","given":"Tim W."}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2015"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Jacobson et al., 2015).
