The chosen culture is the Indian culture with its dominant religion "Hinduism." India is one the most ancient civilization on the face of the World. People and The leaders in Hindu India are very down to Earth and servile.

The servant leadership keenly reflected from almost all the deities worshiped in India. Being humble, down to Earth, and keenly servile is an Indian tradition. Besides Indian religious mythology, servant leadership has been transferred from generation to generation for thousands of years.

The most successful modern-day leader in India as the founder of modern India, Mahatma Gandhi can be easily ascribed with servant leadership. It is not in vain to say that Gandhi practiced epic servant leadership. His servant leadership with a peaceful and non-violent approach to politics has inspired many other leaders. Leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandella are key examples.

Looking at Hindu mythology as depicted in the religious scriptures, you will find many religious figures who are worshiped with grace in India by the masses. These beings practiced servant leadership. The humility and servile nature prevail in the psychology of Indian people.

The Indian culture is an excellent observation and learning ground for servant leadership. When you study Indian culture, you will see that many powerful men practicing servant leadership, and no matter how vicious a person is, he would portray himself in public as a person who is very humble and lacking arrogance.

Western religious literature covers the topic of servant leadership in Christianity. The servant leadership concept is prevalent in almost all religions. The practice of servant leadership implies that the leader acts as a servant for the people he leads.

A servant leader is a servant before he leads the way when the opportunity arises. He keeps the welfare and wellbeing of the followers as a priority. A true leader blooms with struggle and sacrifice. A servant leader should always have compassion and wisdom to come up with decisions that go a long way for his supporters.

On the same note, feelings of arrogance, supremacy, and superiority need to let go. As a servant leader, you never look down on men and specifically the people that work for you. Management research shows that people work well when you give them respect and show humility.

The founder of India, Mahatma Gandhi presented a role model for servant leadership, and he is known worldwide as he struggled to liberate India from British rule. His mark on the Indian culture and politics is well-known and still followed to some extent in India. All the leaders in India are not corrupt, but the majority of a group of people form an opinion. The above description may seem somewhat biased, but despite all those horrible facts, the Hindu servant leaders in India do have qualities that distinguish them from other people.

Understanding Self-Interest

You would rarely find an Indian Hindu leader who is not aware of his or her self-interest. There are very few leaders that act in favor of the common interest of people in India. Most Hindu Leaders that portray themselves as servant leaders are notorious for exploiting the horrible system for short-term benefits. The social disruption in India is due to the high illiteracy and ignorance among the Indian people.

Self-Awareness

Hindu leaders that conform to servant leadership also have self-awareness. They have a close eye over their strengths, weaknesses, skills, and values and more it more or less contributes heavily to their success as a leader. Better Listening and Assessment Skills

It is one of the traits of a servant leader. The counter arrogance and humbleness mark a good servant who can listen first and act upon it. But a leader goes one step further who can judge and assess a situation and find an opportunity to act at the right time and place.

Development of People

Human capital development is essential for the development of a nation or organization. A good servant leader invests resources in people more than investment in the infrastructure of the economy. When you help people to grow, it enables them to develop all other resources without outside intervention. In India, there has been a sharp investment over the past decades in the human resource development software sector.
