Stretching job description like the one described in the case strengthens and weakens job incumbents in various ways. In terms of strengthening the job incumbents, it expands their scope of operation thus ensuring that they develop new skills and knowledge. The development is mostly in the new area that was not present in the job description. Additionally, stretching the job description ensures that there is a good relationship among the employees and that they make new connections and networks among them. It hence strengthens teamwork within the organization (Kadet, 2011).
In terms of weakening the job incumbents, it leads to too much work hence compromising on quality. A person who was initially meant for a certain job will eventually become weak in terms of productivity. Additionally, it reduces chances for specialization. A lot of people like advancing their careers through specialization; thus the stretch leads to advancing into other areas hence no career advancement and development. They are hence overworked (Kadet, 2011).
