Project plan
The project entails helping employees of ABC Company, which is moving their headquarters from Seattle to St. Louis to comfortably accept this change.
Change can be disruptive and threatening, especially when it involves working in a new environment. It affects both the personal and organizational level between the management and the employees. For this reason, we come in and guide both the managers and employees to effectively manage change. From experience, we have realized that there are common elements to manage change despite the uniqueness and how different every organization is.
The first step to this is planning for the change, the ABC Company is advised to have good plans prior to their relocation. The company should have prior knowledge of the working and living conditions of the new environment. This means that the employees would be psychologically and emotionally prepared for any radical change that is to be done. In addition, the management should provide leadership during the times of change (Brown, 2010). This is crucial is reassuring the employees that their welfare will be looked upon in the new working environment. Another factor for ABC to consider, is to keep up to date with the law. Every new location offers new legislation on employment, transfer of undertakings, and handling of redundancies. Thus, the company should ensure that the legislation in the new location favors the employees.
The management has to establish means of communicating and consulting with the employees. This can be achieved through an internal communications strategy, giving employees an opportunity to give their insights on the issue. Timely and effective consultation should be done to assist the employees understand why the need is necessary. Additionally, to be assured of their commitment in the new environment (Waclawski& Church, 2002). Also, it helps in understanding and addressing their concerns.
Understanding the employees’ emotional journey is critical in helping coming to terms with the new environment such as anxiety, fear, excitement, disillusionment among others. To successively deal with the change, it is necessary to use problem- solvingtechniques such as SWOT- analysis, force field analysis and root cause analysis in determining how the change effects will affect the organization.
