People are said to have hearing loss if they are not able to hear well as people with normal hearing. It is mainly caused by aging, noise, diseases, or heredity. Hearing loss can also be caused by physical issues like damage to the hair cells in someone's inner ear. They also experience trouble responding to advice, warnings, or hearing alarms and doorbells. Loud noise is one of the primary causes of hearing loss. Also, earwax buildup blocks sound from the eardrum to the inner ear. A punctured eardrum also causes hearing loss. The eardrum can also be damaged by pressure, infection, and objects in the ear. Other causes include health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure and some medications such as ototoxic drugs. People who experience hearing loss find it hard to have conversations with their families and friends. They also have trouble with phone calls, find it hard to follow conversations, often ask people to repeat what they are saying; they think others are just mumbling. In most cases, people who cannot hear well become depressed and may withdraw from others because they usually feel embarrassed since they cannot understand what is being said.
