In order for organizations to improve the identification and development of succeeding generation of figureheads, they should approach leadership with competency. Upright leadership is a crucial part of any organization. An individual showing competent leadership proves to be an important asset within a group. Leadership competencies help leaders become better at their workplace by ameliorating their leadership skills. The task of pinpointing abilities, skills, and knowledge that strategic leaders of the future need can be tiresome because of the long lists involved. Therefore, utility of these leadership competencies reduces the work effort in carrying out the tasks. This paper aims at exploring and giving a detailed description of the eleven competencies associated with leadership as introduced in the Hughes text. Some of the competencies include strategic planning, organization perspective, managing conflicting perspectives, organizational decision-making, acting systematically, organizational influence, enhancing collaborative relationships, adapting to new conditions, promoting organizational transition, initiation of organizational creativity, and vision demonstration.
