Benefits of Capital Punishment

Capital punishment is a hot topic in today's time. Everyone has their own opinion on the morality and legality of the death penalty. I believe the death penalty is the best option compared to the alternatives. The use of capital punishment by the state has a few positive sides that outweigh the negatives. The positive of the death penalty is it saves the state and its people money, it allows the family of a murdered victim to have a sense of closure, and it prevents the inmate from harming anyone else.

The initial benefit of capital punishment: while it might seem painfully logical when referring to one's life, the execution of an inmate on death row saves more money than life imprisonment. A large portion of taxpayer dollars goes toward the housing of prisoners. It is multiple times cheaper for an inmate to be executed than to spend the rest of their life in prison. With the cost of living going down in prison, it allows more money to be spent on the prisoners for things like health care
