As a toddler, I was fascinated by Dad’s early morning duties and his punctuality in attending to his patients at the nearby community hospital. I was curious as to why he always came home late at night and woke up very early in the morning. At the age of 12 years, I was perturbed by the sudden by my grandmother’s death. Then, I felt helpless as I used to see her being attended by dad now and then. She was diagnosed with liver cancer that led to a slow death. At the moment, I was intrigued and determined to help my grandmother to feel alive, but I did not have the knowledge and expertise to do so. After such an ordeal, I made a decision to follow Dad’s footsteps and focus on helping people in my community to escape the painful tentacles of emergent diseases. It was at this point that I decided to focus on health and other biological sciences on the verge to save lives.
After a successful completion of my high school education, attaining good grades in biological sciences as well as psychology, I undertook several volunteer programs in the community on the verge of reaching out to the needy and offering palliative care to the elderly. This experience enabled me to possess a caring personality coupled with curiosity complex within the dynamics of healthcare. Furthermore, my primary career objective is to become a nurse and give back. Now, I have understood the basis for the diagnosis of liver cancer on my grandmother.
As a future Registered Nurse, I have always believed that only one school in New England can mold me and make my career objective attainable, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). After talking to a family friend, an alumni member of MCPHS, I realized that MCPHS has unique instructional methods that will enable me to become what I want in the nursing profession.
