Personal Mastery of Leadership Experience (Personal Statement Sample)
This assignment was a personal reflection paper titled ‘Personal Mastery Paper.’ It called for the first-person point of view writing and the use of at least three resources in the exploration of my life-long personal mastery of leadership experience in four reflective moments: the past, the future, the analysis, and the synthesis. It required a narration about a figure in life that inspired the reflective moments in the leadership experience in my past. In this regard, I chose my father as the character in my past leadership experience, who, as mentioned in the proceeding writings, exhibited several characteristics that made him a good leader, key among them are patience, empathy, discipline, honesty, and a sense of humor. For the future, I got inspired by the literature of Smith (2019, p. 288). According to Bill George’s model for authentic leadership, leaders should demonstrate certain qualities to be authentic. George describes the qualities in five dimensions that include, “purpose and passion, values and behavior, relationships and connectedness, self-discipline and consistency, and heart and compassion.” In this instance, narrated that I aspired to be an authentic leader by having a clear sense of purpose, which means knowing what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be. In the analysis part, I tried to scrutinize my leadership experience in the past with that in the future by stating that my previous experiences, while growing up, shapes my present self-development as a leader and that my personality will play a major role in shaping my self-development as a leader. In the synthesis part, I linked my leadership experience in the past with the aspirations that I have in the future and promised to continue developing myself as a leader by never losing sight of my goals, cultivating a good relationship with others to create a better social perception and establish a determined mind-set. I also noted that I was bound to face several challenges in my ambition to develop as a leader and enumerated some of the main challenges.

Personal Mastery Paper
This paper explores my life-long personal mastery of leadership experience in four reflective moments: the past, the future, the analysis, and the synthesis.
The Past
My past leadership experience began with my father, who exhibited several characteristics that made him a good leader. He exhibited five major characteristics that I cherished. He has exhibited patience, empathy, discipline, honesty, and a sense of humour. Handling children can be quite stressful as they keep making mistakes and repeating them. However, my father was quite patient and even when we seemed to annoy him, he would smile over some of the mistakes and guide us to the right path. I found this trait useful for people who aspire to be successful business owners because for one to operate a business, they must be patient in whatever they do and honest.
The second leadership experience came to school from my principal. He was visionary, a clear communicator, a motivational speaker, and an active listener. He always talked about having a vision in life and encouraged us to be visionary in whatever we did. He always clearly delivered his points and motivated us to work hard. While he appeared authoritative, he was also an active listener and had a specific day that he dedicated to listening to parents and children who had various challenges.
My middle-adulthood memory of leadership came as a leader when I got the responsibility of being a youth leader in my locality. I faced several challenges that needed careful handling.
