Bartol, C. R. (1980). Criminal behavior: A psychosocial approach. Englewood Cliffs, N.J: Prentice-Hall.
In this textbook, Bartol emphasizes that on regards of criminal behaviour, human beings tend to react towards situations presented to them anchored on the individual notions and perceptions in addition to their interpretations concerning the specific situation. Furthermore, these interpretations and perceptions are largely influenced by their thoughts and experiences. A decent psychological analysis of the criminal behavior, thus its highlighted requires recognition of the personality factors and the way these interact to situational variables. This source provides discussions in psychosocial and psychobiological factors as far as criminality and criminal and deviant behaviors are concerned, developmental factors present in juvenile delinquency among other concepts. The analysis provided by this text are among those that would provide thorough sociological and psychodynamic information from the research analysis concerning the subject of criminal behavior. This is because if provides in depth discussion on related studies in regards of issues in self-esteem, cognitive interpretations, control and moral development.
Chambliss, W. J. (2011). Key issues in crime and punishment. Thousand Oaks, Calif: SAGE.
The author through this volume presents forth a reliable integrated theory on deviance which is referred to as control balance; whose principal aspect projected by this theory is that the level of control which individuals are in relation to the amount of exercisable exercise would influence the type and probability of their deviant behavior. In this manner, he explains the control of balance being a continuation or a brief culmination of crime and deviance collected by previous scholars and their efforts. In his text, he identifies other features which have to be included like comprehensiveness, breadth and depth when generating successful highlights and theories in the overall effort to suppress a variety of common problems related to simple theories concerning crime and deviance. Two popular methodologies, elaboration and intervention used to build better theories and in evaluation the promises and practices of each of the method concurrent to the features stated earlier by his text are covered by the author. This volume would have significant assist with the research on criminal behavior and crime and deviance since it would advocate for better approaches to integrate theoretically in building the general theory and integrating its framework.
Pearce, F. (1976). Crimes of the powerful: Marxism, crime, and deviance. London: Pluto Press.
The author of this marxist approach of deviance, white collar crime and ideologies, a more radical conclusion is reached blaming the rule of political interests and ruling corporates for the prevalent criminal acts in most developed states and countries such as the U.S. Pearce, F argues in this book that criminology has become a roaring monster due to a huge failure and neglect by international dimensions to address its aspects such as socialogical control mechanisms and criminal behavior. He exhibits that most states’ complex relationships towards organized crime is addressed by examinations in regards to organized bodies such as Drug Enforcement Agency DEA, central intelligence agency CIA among others elsewhere. The relationships seen in organized crime serving the entrenched political and corporate establishment are thoroughly addressed and this would provide suitable insight on how the government's activities and their rule has influenced criminal behavior through such influences.
Robert J. Sampson and John H. Laub (1990) Crime and Deviance over the Life Course: The Salience of Adult Social Bonds, American Sociological Review. Vol. 55, No. 5 (Oct., 1990), pp. 609-627
This analysis is based upon the research findings tested through a model of crime and deviance over the life course to exhibit how childhood delinquencies would relate towards the adulthood criminal development. This is tested by hypothesis which uses antisocial behaviors in children to predict problems that would be presented in their development towards adulthood. The studies are anchored on Gluecks’ classic study of delinquent and non-delinquent males. There has been proven data from their analysis/research that childhood delinquency is related to adult criminal behavior and general deviance among other behavior like alcohol abuse and educational failure etc. The research in this text comes in handy providing valuable causes that might result into deviant and criminal behavior based on the statistics gotten from the individuals’ early antisocial behaviors. Since the text also provides how the deviance could be inhibited by strong attachments present in marriage and job stability, it would allow more revelation toward the changes of the antisocial behavior that result to deviance over the individual life course as far as the subject is concerned.
Raine, A. (1993). The psychopathology of crime: Criminal behavior as a clinical disorder. San Diego: Academic Press.
The main goal of the book familiarizes researchers to a rapidly increasing influence of knowledge regarding the biological bases of criminal behavior. It claims that when full understanding of criminal behavior is to be attained, there is need for awareness on every influence bearing on it since its clear that as addressed here environmental and psychosocial factors are crucially determinant in crime’s development. A minor goal addressed is on whether crime is a disorder, focussing this on the knowledge that criminal behavior or disorder could be compared much as anxiety, depression and schizotypal personality which are conceptualized being disorders. Because of this analysis presented, it would contribute on the causative factors of criminal behavior that lead to deviant behaviors, not confusing this to the less related or different issue of whether m...
