Caffeine in the model of 6-Hydroxydopamine lesion rats. Federal University of Ceara, Brazil. 415-419
This research paper discusses effects of caffeine after an intrastriatal injection in rats of 6-OHDA is considered a type of Parkinson’s disease (PD). As per the research, two weeks following the injection, apomorphine challenges start effecting o the rats which begin to exhibit rotational behaviors Results showed an increased apomorphine-induced rotations in rats lesioned with 6-OHDA compared to the sham-operated animals. However, after caffeine treatment, the rats underwent some partial recovery. Treatment was carried out for fourteen days. There was a significant decrease in the dopamine levels and 15-53 per cent recoveries therefore indicating the beneficial effects of caffeine in the tested model of Parkinson’s disease.
