Allen gives a short description of Hershey’s life through his book, “Chocolate Fortunes Chapter 4”. He describes Hershey as an industrialist who had a lot of success in business though he never had any well-established business policies. The book describes Hershey’s early attempts in business, his failures and successes. For example, his first company, M.S. Hershey, failed after six years of its operation. This did not deter him from pursuing his dreams, and though he faced several challenges and failed many times, he still succeeded. He made a final but successful attempt by starting the Hershey Chocolate Company, which had a rapid growth until it became a very successful business venture.

This book gives an elaborated history of Hershey’s early life, focusing on his childhood, early business ventures, and his motivation. He had many life challenges, being born in a not well to do family, he had to struggle to realize his goals. He did not do well as a student but still had dreams that he would do well in business. Although his father did not support him much, he had the help of his mother and aunt. He eventually received $150 from his aunt and moved to Philadelphia to venture in business.

The book also describes Mr. Hershey’s personality as very strict but reasonable. He was very generous but never hesitated to fire lazy employees.
