The cost and consequences of violent conflict include social, political, and economical. Other effects may include mental health, public health, educational attainment, diminishing capital expenditure, and children's physical and psychological development. These consequences last longer even after the war and harm the people and a country's economic performance (Chirico, 2019). They first affect the country that they begin in, but they are also likely to spill into the surrounding countries, destabilizing the entire region. Additionally, countries that engage in constant conflict are affected by attaining their millennial goals. This is more evident in Burundi and Burkina Faso, which had the same level of growth from the 1960s until the Burundi civil war of 1990, which set Burundi back to losing years of development. The battle was characterized by a crash of two tribes that saw investors' fear in investing in the economy harming the country's industrial growth. Until 2010, the government had not yet recovered from the effects.
Further, war will affect the country's educational attainment because education is directly related to economic development. In Turkey, for instance, a decade-long civil conflict confirms the link between the war and the level of education among the citizens. Students in conflict-hit counties in Turkey are more likely to suffer in their early years of schooling, affecting the quality of education they receive. This whole effect will also affect the students' performance when they head to higher institutions such as universities. Also, war creates a humanitarian crisis by creating several refugees and other internally displaced persons. They are likely to flee into neighboring countries that may not have the potential to care for them, and even the financial aid from the international organization may not be sufficient to care for the increased population.
