Critical thinking is a relatively new concept when compared to other methods of teaching, thinking, and learning methods. According to Dunne (2018), the etymology of critical thinking dates back to over 2500 years ago based on the visions and practical teachings of Socrates. Socrates came up with using probing questions to deconstruct questions that people could not justify rationally. According to Socrates, an individual could have a high-ranking position in society. Despite the position, the same individual could be irrational and confused when it comes to decision-making (Dunne, 2018). As such, there is a need to ask profound questions before accepting an idea. His ways of thinking led to the development of “Socratic questioning”, critical thinking, and teaching strategy based on logical consistency and clarity.
