A cult is a strong attachment that a person has towards an idea, object, movement, or piece of work. Spiritual cults are common in society, and their impacts have been witnessed on individuals based on their practice. Cults have got health and social impacts on an individual life, according to the research that the author conducted to understand the meaning of spiritual cults and their impacts on individuals. It affects people's lives because it dictates an individual's life. Religious cults are available worldwide and have negatively impacted and shaped people's lives, exposing them to more risks.
A cult is a group of people bound together with a charismatic leader for religious, political, psychological, or economic aspects. The bond is always unbreakable because it is deeply rooted in the followers. Cult leaders impact the lives of their followers, and there is a power connection between the leaders and the followers. There is much dedication given to the leaders of the cults, giving the leaders much control over the lives of the followers. The leaders use unethical ways to manipulate their followers' minds to fulfill the leader's interest as the followers are disadvantaged (Rousselet et al. 27).
Cult leaders use manipulative and persuasion strategies to convince their followers and control their behaviors. They isolate their followers from their friends and family members and use language to mislead them by giving false information about those not within their cults. They promote dependence among their members with much guilt to leave the group.
While recruiting members’ cult leaders use misleading information, where they do not provide the needed information to the members. Cult members are taught that the outside world is not safe for them and that their group is the only people superior to the dangerous world. The cult leaders are the final decision makers; what they say is final and cannot be questioned. The cult leaders decide whether an individual can go to school. Members are denied freedom of independent thinking, and when a cult member wants to do something, they must seek permission from their leaders.
