source..Queen Designer: Zaha Hadid
The architecture industry lost a powerful influence in the person of Zaha Hadid when the architect died at 65 last March 2016. She left behind not just a number of stellar buildings, but inspiration to designers of today.
The Talent
A frontrunner in the world of building design, Zaha Hadid set the bar for architecture of the 21st century. The Iraqi-born architect’s passion for the built environment budded from the time her father took her to see the Sumerian cities. Hadid said in one of her many dialogues, “I’m trying to discover - invent, I suppose - an architecture, and forms of urban planning, that do something of the same thing in a contemporary way.” It is funny how it is her creations that now left the world in awe and astonishment, the same way she felt with her childhood experience that did not seem to have left her. A woman, a foreigner, and a master of noncorforming works, Zaha Hadid was a strong personality the world is not prepared for.
The Impact
Zaha Hadid’s first realized project, the Vitra Fire Station, launched her name and style into an international audience. Architecture had never been the same since. Hadid’s signature works are often described as deconstructivist and neo modernist and mostly located in London and New York. Interesting geometry and elegant curves speak the architectural style of Hadid. Some of her most controversial works include Guangzhou Opera House, London Aquatics Centre, Broad Art Museum, and MAXXI National Museum - all dynamic, stimulating, and monumental. Even when not intended to be personal stamps in the world, a work done right is a work that is recognized.
