College of Computer Information Technology Final Assignment Question 1: Lab Assignment (1) Poster Design The topic "The coming decades of AI: Assessing the Predictions, Promised, and Emerging Possibilities" was an excellent choice for the poster project, as it allowed for meaningful discussion and visualization of the transformational impacts of artificial intelligence. Considering AI's growing role across virtually all domains of society in the coming years, raising awareness of the impacts through an informative poster could capture people's interest while addressing both optimistic predictions as well as concerns regarding the emerging technology. With various opinions on how AI may affect our lives, work and world, designing a poster on this topic would facilitate research from many angles to then consolidate key discussion points in a compelling visual layout. The poster format is well-suited for this thought-provoking yet complex topic, with the potential to both educate and spark conversation among broader audiences. Design Consideration for the Poster * Images: - Careful consideration was given to the choice and integration of images, as they would play a vital role in visually showcasing the layered topics of AI and its diverse applications in an impactful yet cohesive manner. Specifically, about four full-color images were selected that aptly represented the most pivotal aspects of artificial intelligence transformation across different domains, with a key focus on healthcare to reinforce the core discussion. Images must have been high-resolution to ensure crisp clarity when viewed from a distance, with file sizes in the range of 500KB-1MB to maintain a balanced layout. Placing the images with strategic spacing between them and in relation to text sections was given importance to guide the eye in a pleasing flow across the poster. With a synergistic blend of carefully weighed imagery and text, the poster was able to visually summarize volumes of complex AI concepts and innovations through a few well-positioned images, serving to not only embellish but essentially bolster the key emphasis of the thought-provoking topic at hand. * Text: - The implementation of properly formatted text was crucial to clearly convey key messages in an accessible manner. Defining the title and primary section headers warranted a large font that could be readable from a distance, thereby instantly grasping the core subjects at a glance. It was also wise to designate one or two complementary accent colors reserved exclusively for these overarching titles to make them pop distinctively against the background. Embracing a simpler font style yet smaller scale for additional sub-sections and supporting bodies of text promoted effective scanning of textual information at both a high level and in greater detail. Bulleted lists housed 3 to 5 succinct points per area helped break up dense blocks of text and permitted swift absorption of fundamental takeaways about emerging applications of AI. * Spacing and Layout: -Thought was put into making the layout look nice and easy to read. Big spaces were left all around the edges so nothing felt crowded. Also, it was important to break up the content into clear sections about each topic, which was achieved by leaving enough space between each part. Doing it this way let each section have its own room but still feel joined as one whole thing. Careful amount of work was put into where everything was placed and how big each element was, thus ensuring the setup was pleasing on the eyes and the brain to look over everything and understand the big ideas step-by-step. * Color Scheme: - Bringing the right colors together was essential to give the poster a neat and unified look while keeping viewer attention. I decided on choosing no more than three to four different hues that went well together for an overall smooth and balanced mix. One color would pop more than the others as the main one, used the most in key spots like the title to make a strong first impression. Then maybe one or two other colors provided some splash in smaller dashes here and there. Careful thought went into where exactly to put each color to best highlight separate parts but also smoothly move the eyes across. The main color framed out sections for simple organization. In bringing the right palette together systematically like this, it tied the diverse pieces into a cohesive and impactful whole presentation. Initial Wireframe Based on the initial brainstorming, the poster was envisioned to take the structure highlighted in the following wireframe: The First Design The following designed was reached initially, and captured the key ideas intendent for the selected poster topic: The Final Design After feedback from peers, the following final poster design was reached after the following modifications: * The background colour was changed to back, and text colour to white. These two contrast very well align with the theme of artificial intelligence. * The topic was improved and made longer in order to occupy a large area. Doing so was more attracting to the audience. * Using Adobe Photoshop, the guttering (spaces between different section was enhanced) and organized to make each section distinct in terms of layout appearance. * One section and image was removed from the final design to avoid crowing of elements that made the poster not readable due to squeezed fonts. With this change, the new poster was more readable within the initial layout of 1x17 inch (300 PPI resolution). * Bullet points were used to enhance the readability. In adobe Photoshop, the bullets were generated using the “>>” element from the glyphs panel under the Types => Panels tabs. The bullets were formatted in red colour that contrasts very well with the black background. * All subheadings were formatted in a blue background with white text. This created a more enhanced visual appeal. * Text-wrapping around the images was also achieved after employing the Pen tool in adobe photoshop. Question 2: Lab Assignment (2) Logo Designing This task was about logo design based on principles and practices of effective logo design. Effective logo design is crucial for creating a strong brand identity and leaving a lasting impression on consumers. This task devolves into a practical example of designing a logo for a fictitious book publication company focusing on Middle Eastern literature. The following principles were followed in designing the logo. * Principle 1: I ensured that my logo design is versatile, which means that it can be used as a mark of identity or branding on different platforms and sizes without compromising the visibility of features. For example, the logo I designed can be adapted on websites or such merchandise as caps, T-shirts, and business cards. * Principle 2: The logo I designed espouses memories. It features a distinctive and unique design. The goal of this approach was to ensure the targeted audience is left with a memorable impression. * Principle 3: My logo design manifests simplicity. Making it less complicated ensures that the target audience can both recognize and interpret the features with relative ease. * Principle 4: Utmost efforts have been made towards making the logo design relevant in the target audience domain. Consumers need not struggle to associate the logo icons and wordmark with the brand values. * Principle 5: I have ensured that my logo design is timeless. This means that the intended message should persist for years or even decades in the memories of the consumers, thereby guaranteeing consistency in brand representation. * Principle 6: My logo embodies quality through its attention to detail attributes observed when designing and combining constituent elements. It reflects the company’s emphasis on excellent service to customers. * Principle 7: I believe my logo design is appropriate because the icons, slogans, and wordmarks resonate with the culture, social, and ethical values of the Arab community. Drawing Inspiration of the Logo * I drew inspiration from various sources to develop my logo for the fictitious UAE book publishing company with a focus on Middle Eastern literature. I conceptualized the idea by sketching it on a piece of paper was shown in the image below. * The first source of inspiration was my brand's values and identity. As a book publisher, I wanted my logo to convey a sense of warmth, knowledge, and adventure through the logo design. * The second source of inspiration came from nature and the environment. I incorporated the petaled-ring sun to represent warmth, positivity, and enlightenment. * The third source of inspiration is the industry of focus. Since my focus is a publishing company, stacked books symbolize knowledge. The use of a bold, block-like books adds a sense of solidity and weight, emphasizing the importance and significance of the knowledge being carried. Likewise, the flipping pages insinuate moving forward, learning, and advancing through knowledge. * The fourth source of inspiration came from cultural and symbolic reference to the UAE community. The silhouette of a camel is conspicuous in the main body of the logo. It symbolizes resilience, adaptability, and the journey of acquiring knowledge in the Middle East. * By combining these elements, these graphics form an eye-catching focal point that tells a story in a few or without words. Determining the Design Software The logo was designed incorporated a combination of online tools: Canva, Pinterest, Remove bg, and Online-Convert. * Canva is a versatile online design platform that enables users to create a wide range of visual content such as logos, posters, business cards, and website interfaces. * Pinterest is an image sharing platform that allows users to explore and discover new ideas through image-based browsing. * Remove bg is affiliated to Can...
