The use of animals in scientific biomedical research has raised controversial debates over the years. Animal rights extremist and anti- vivisectionist groups believe that animal experimentation is cruel and unnecessary, and they want immediate abolition on animal research regardless its benefits. Research with animals has saved human lives, reduced human suffering and advanced scientific understanding to some of the ailments throughout the world. The invention and creation of new treatments techniques and medicine have been made possible by animal research. (Simon & Robin 2007).
Although there being research ethic codes which have forbidden the use of human as experiment medias, in pharmaceuticals industry animals are regarded as perfect experimental medias that match human reactions and are used to carry out research of new kinds of experimental drugs and new kinds of viruses. It is to make sure that medicines being discovered are safe for human consumption. For examples, the vaccine for smallpox was developed by use of cows. Animals have rights too and based on the rights it still does not make it right and acceptable to use them in research experiments. (Jesy 2013)
Scientific research being a very import aspect in the world and has helped humans in tackling many life threatening aspects. It makes it almost impossible not to use animals in the experiments in the medicine world. In the case of new viruses mice are usually used by researchers to test and come up with medicine that later is used to save lives of those who suffer from that virus. In other situations where scientist are forced to work in unfavorable areas to humans, animal are used as pioneers to save human lives so as to continue with their discovery. (Simon & Robin)
Using of animals in experiments hurts animal physically, and we cannot ignore other people’s opinions against death of animals, but it is clear that it has to be done for humankind. Regulations to govern the rights of animals should be created minimize their use in bias experiment result that have no significant benefit to mankind. If there need, be the " three R’S" that is the replacement of animals, improvement of animal methods and minimization of the animals used be adhered to. (Neavs)
