In reading Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s "Why Vampires Never Die”, the authors link human fascination to vampirism from the myths told long time ago that cut across cultures and eras of names like Indian Baital, Ch’ing Shil in China and Roman Strigoi (Guillermo "Why Vampires Never Die”). They assert that vampires have been part of our human race, either seen as creatures of evil nature or angels. Tales of their existence have throughout the origin of mankind been narrated. The incorporation of vampirism in movies show how mankind is drawn to these forms of beings, due to their promises of everlasting love, eternal life and a world of constancy. There are, however, some contrasting views against what these authors say.
Guillermo and Hogan talk of vampires originating from repressed memories of our past as primates. As we evolved to domestication, myths having erupted which talk of primate beasts feeding on blood of humans and wondered around the earth show how vampires originated. In "The Vampire Bible”, a collection called the "Scriptures of Delphi”; vampires are seen originating from a different point. They originated from a human who was cursed by the sun god, Apollo, by his skin never touching the sun forever. Pitying the human, Artemis, Apollo’s sister, blessed the human with immortality, the speed and might for him to be a successful hunter.
Toro and Hogan say that people believe fictional tales and keep them for centuries. These intriguing tales keep people romance about them and do anything to continue popularizing the stories. However, "The Allegory of the Cave" focuses on the thought that people believe in tales they can be able to comprehend since they are comfortable having an explanation to what they know. They view complex information as being harmful to their understanding of how things work. Thus, if a topic is complex, the idea of it dies since people cannot comprehend it for long in vain (Plato "The Allegory”).
Due to changing technology, Toro and Hogan hold the view that vampires will never die since movies keep targeting different audiences to keep them entertained. However, the fact that vampirism is simply a folklore, the idea of it can vanish if a new one emerges. This is because people like to remain in current events. Thus, vampirism can die.
The authors also depict that vampires have the ability to be immortal, in that they avoid death by living eternally. According to "How to Kill a Vampire”, an article in the website "Gods and Monsters”, it is possible to kill vampires. The use of sunlight and silver, which were the curses given to them, a wooden stake or simply tearing its head off are effective ways to end their lives ("How to Kill”).
