Introduction
The present paper offers a summary on a previous cased study of a process-oriented adults’ group, by Wade et al. (2014) based on the assessment of the issues deep in tackling R/S (religion and spirituality) in nonthematic group psychology. The researchers sought to achieve 3 key objectives: to explain more on the matters defining how and when to handle R/S using a nonthematic overall process group via a case illustration of a process group not centered on any definite theme; to exemplify methods of efficiently dealing with R/S within group psychotherapy, and finally; offer definite interventions and recommendations for assisting group therapists to therapeutically deal with R/S issues.
To achieve the above objectives, the researchers sought to answer various research questions: are the leaders expected to mediate the debate, emphasizing on here-and-now? Upon intervention, are the leaders allowed to ask the status of the victim’s religion or addiction? Should the leaders consult the group to verify the reactions to individual sharing? If yes, do such leaders concentrate on the addictions or religious essentials or should they consider an open-ended formality to simply have the members respond to the best of their knowledge?
As an approach towards comprehending the issue, the researchers considered a case study within a ‘psychology-department-affiliated clinic’ setting, comprising of 2 co-leaders, 7 community members as well as 1 process observer. The method included viewing of videos from the group’s primary formation to the withdrawal of the primary group member, comprising of 28 sessions. Transcription and review of R/S issues within an interval (N _ 10; 36%) was done comprehensively.
