Book review: Fish by Gregory Mone
Maurice, nicknamed Fish due to his incredible abilities in swimming is around eleven years old when the family horse died. Mone states that, "without Shamrock, they’d barely be able to grow enough to feed themselves." This shows that Fish is from a poor background. With the family at a critical situation, Fish as he was not good at farming, he left to his uncle to work as a courier. This was the beginning of his adventure since on his way to delivery of the package robbers waylay him on the way. He decides to follow the pirates in order to get his package back, prevent scab, and find treasure and more so saving his family. Mone shows this by clearly explaining, "He had no choice but to find the thieves…" On his way, he manages to make a few friends and enemies and learns that not all crew loyal as they had their captain believe and the coins were more of what they were. He became an essential part of the crew after the captain realized the coins had untold treasure. In all means, he would use Fish to decipher the secret.

Mone demonstrates his skills, "Fish breathed in deep and dove" he shows that the skill saves a life making Fish to attain the character of a lifesaver. Some other quotes portray his character to be good-hearted, non-violent, and honest and intelligently use choice of words to conquer evil without hurting or murdering anyone. Some of these are such as "fish had rejected the offers, declaring that he had no interest in weapons" he chose to be intelligent and not by use of force but the brain. Again, to my opinion, he honestly did not need the weapons since his swimming skill could do the saving in any urgent situation. He also portrays his bravely by refusing to fight.
Mone depicts the conflicts when he states that the crew under Captain Cobb, had divisions and at times they could fight amongst themselves. The main obvious theme is adventure where the plot gives a brief analysis of how Fish left home, and ends up hunting for a mysterious treasure. At first, we wonder if he is to make it but he did. Through his friends, intelligence not t...
