Tim Hortons Inc. is a multinational fast-food restaurant chain well-known for coffee and baked foods. The Tim Hortons Inc. case study rotates around the company's financial reporting and corporate governance. According to the case study, the company prepared its financial reports using the Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). In addition, the case study analysis determined that the company faces high competition from other restaurants, has a substantial brand royalty, has high debt levels, and focuses on same-store sales.
Introduction
Tim Hortons Inc. is majorly known as the Tims or Timmys by its loyal customers. It is a Canadian-based international restaurant with a chain of restaurants. The stores are identified for specialization in baked foods. Its major menu items are coffee, doughnuts, soups, and sandwiches. Tim Hortons was founded in 1964. The company uses the franchise model whereby around 99.5% of its stores are franchised-owned. The company has maintained to be the largest restaurant chain store in Canada, serving over ten countries (Hitt et al., 2016). The major competitor of the company is Mcdonald's. In 2013, the company started experiencing challenges with its business model, which led to a decline in sales and made it purchase to become a subsidiary of Burger King in 2014.
