SK-Eating Disorder Care
Part 1
The examination of the healthcare system in specific regions provides crucial information regarding the given medical care system. Eating disorders are prevalent in contemporary human society (Yacu, 2020). In essence, the analysis of a particular organization ensures that each component of the medical facility is also examined. In the given case, the analysis of Schon Klinik as a medical facility providing eating disorder care remains a crucial task undertaken in this case study report. Various strategic analysis tools, including SWOT analysis, PEST analysis, and Porter's five forces model, are employed to perform the analysis.
SWOT Analysis
The tool is employed to identify and analyze the strength and opportunities exhibited by the medical facility in the current German healthcare system. In particular, the device also identifies the weaknesses and threats that face the facility accordingly. As a result, proper corrective measures are determined to help the medical organization achieve better healthcare outcomes among its patients. In the given case, the facility has an able workforce with over 7600 employees. The employees serve various facilities that form part of the larger medical facility. They are well trained and equipped, which is a significant strength in the current competitive medical sector. The utilization of a shared information system among individuals helps improve healthcare delivery in the given scenario. Notably, the organization has an excellent opportunity to advance such information systems to include the latest communication and information technologies globally. The utilization of such a modern system ensures that the organization can meet the population's demand accordingly.
Despite the specific strengths and opportunities enjoyed by the organization, threats and weaknesses also form part of the internal and external environment of the facility. In the given case, one of the company's significant threats is the lack of sufficient support from governmental programs. The organization had to seek private insurers to help its patient in the form of bundled payments. The medical facility also suffers from weaknesses, including the relapse of patients after the treatment programs. The lack of a proper follow-up care system is a primary weakness affecting the facility.
PEST Analysis
The political, economic, social, and technological examination provides crucial information regarding the organization. It helps create an image of the medical facility to both internal and external stakeholders. The company's leadership has remained influential in serving people from different locations, as evidenced in the case study (Exhibit 2). Indeed, the governmental organs have also presented isolated forms of support for the medical facility accordingly. In the given case, the economic forces affecting the hospital are diverse. The ability of the patients to cover the medical expense is based on the financial state of the population. Besides, the utilization of private insurers ensures that the economic ability of the patients is promoted accordingly.
Various social and technological factors also affect the performance of the hospital accordingly. In the given case, the hospital serves a large population, including individuals from different social backgrounds (Exhibit 3). Discrimination based on such social differences is absent from the medical facility. Besides, the utilization of relevant treatment programs promotes social equality in the facilities. A centralized information system in the medical facility is a crucial technological component of the organization. In particular, the company enjoys increased effectiveness by ensuring that all individuals in the facilities can access such information accordingly.
Porter’s Five Forces Model
The model developed by Porter seeks to examine the competitive environment of any given organization. In the given case, the competition available for the medical facility can be analyzed using the model. The buyer and supplier power are two major forces that affect the competition. In particular, the ability of the buyer or the supplier to drive prices up is relevant. Suppliers of medical equipment and services have reduced their ability to drive prices up in the given case. Similarly, the buyers have a reduced ability to drive such prices up since the medical sector employs various payment systems. As such, the competitive impact of the suppliers and buyers has been managed accordingly.
Competitive rivalry reveals the number and ability of other medical healthcare service providers. In essence, the medical organization in the case study faces competition from hospitals within the German medical sector, including Roseneck and Bad Arolsen hospitals (Exhibit 7). The facility also faces the threat of substitution since other medical facilities also offer similar services and products. The threat of new entry is limited since medical facilities are challenging to design and develop. They require a lot of support from foundations and other government and non-governmental agencies. The given facility required several years to enter and grow in the sector, as evidenced in exhibit 4. In such a way, the threat of new entrants is managed accordingly.
Part 2
Schon's Overall Strategy for Growth and Value Improvement
The employment of a relevant growth and value improvement strategy is crucial for the success of any organization. In particular, the utilization of such schemes ensures that the company can manage its resources to meet its goals objectives. In the given case, the utilization of a specific growth and value improvement strategy by Schon remains crucial. The scheme involves the opening and acquisition of new hospitals within the German medical environment. Since 1985, the organization has opened and acquired various hospitals to form part of Schon’s network of hospitals. The utilization of diverse resources from investors and private insurers has promoted the growth and development of the medical institution accordingly. As evidenced in the case study, the revenue of the company has grown steadily from 1985 to 2010. The revenue growth is revealed since revenue stood at 6 million and 531 million euros in 2010 (Exhibit 4). The increase in revenue indicates that the strategy has been a success.
Schon's Outcome Measurement System
The outcome measurement system undertaken by the organization provides relevant information about the healthcare effects experienced by the patients. The outcomes are often measured during admission and after the discharge of the patient. The measurement system is effective, in my opinion. They are exact since they measure various outcomes, as revealed in the case study. Patient satisfaction, symptom improvement, and body mass index are some measurements that were undertaken (Porter et al., 2012). The system seems to be working since the measurements are very particular and diverse. It incorporates the unique components and elements of the healthcare provision system. The information helps develop better insurance schemes by other stakeholders. It allows such stakeholders to make informed decisions to promote the outcomes of the patients accordingly.
Schon's Model for Delivering Care for Eating Disorders
The provision of care for persons suffering from various eating disorders is undertaken using a unique system in the fac
