Over the recent years, Yahoo has faced many accusations from its users over its services. Lack of creativity and innovativeness has degraded IT systems at Yahoo. Although the number of people in search of website products and services has increased tremendously over the recent past, Yahoo is yet to capitalize on this fact (Jones & George, 2014). Many people are in search of IT solutions that meet their needs. However, reluctance of Yahoo IT experts to respond to such demands has made many users shift to Google and other competitors. In addition, web users want simplicity and technology that that can help them in their daily activities. Without creativity in website products and service Yahoo will continue to experience decline in traffic. Therefore, there is need for Yahoo to improve its IT systems and websites services to meet these market demands.
Mayer can use her IT expertise to improve Yahoo’s responsiveness in many ways. First of all, Mayer has tremendous experience in IT systems that can motivate Yahoo engineers to create a simpler user interface such as one used by Google or even better one. Although Yahoo has been responding to customer demands, critically one can argue it has been responding to Google’s changes. Therefore, Mayer having played a critical role in the success of Google, she can create products that are ahead of Google. In addition, Mayer was behind the simple search box, a vital tool that has made users shift to yahoo. Through her experience and ability to attract high-quality engineers she can help Yahoo create better search box and user interphase that will beat the competition.
The most effective ways in which Yahoo can improve users’ online experience is by responding to users’ demands (Jones & George, 2014). Online portals must understand consumer needs. For instance research shows that most online users do not want disturbance during their online activities as observed from Yahoo ads (Vaidhyanathan, 2012). Furthermore, online users want quick and innovative features that can “read their mind” and give results that suit their context.
