The confusing benefits
Employees appeared to be confused by their stock option plan and retirement plan of self- contribution. They also considered the benefits of child care and the wellness center to be of little value.
Recommendations to Velma
Companies require a strategic reward system for the employees that incorporates benefits package among other important aspects such as compensation and recognition. Rewards extended to employees are an important area of the strategic reward system and the employees definitely consider the type of benefits provided by the company (Kondalkar, 2007). This section recommends ways to improve the benefits given to the employees.
Velma extends a standardized beneficial program to the employees. For instance, for the employees who left the company, the child care and the wellness center were of little practical value to them for reasons indicated. They claim they do not have small children and also are very busy to utilize the facilities of the recreation center. This is a concern and therefore the benefit can be more appreciated if the rewards are individualized according to the specific people involved.
The employees of Velma Company seem not to understand the value of the benefit package. The management should consider communicating to the employees the worth or value of the existing benefit package. This will help avoid the witnessed confusion among the employees (Kondalkar, 2007). More so, the management should apply the nonfinancial rewards, to enable the employees feel valued and appreciated by the firm. This can be in the form of preparing an appreciation week for all the workers.
