The President wanted the expedition to travel to the Pacific Ocean because he yearned to institute trade using the Instinctive American societies of the West and discover a water way to the Pacific. (Neibaur, et al. 2003) Jefferson was moreover captivated by the panorama of what could be cultured about the topography of the West, the lives and dialects of the Instinctive Americans, the florae and faunae, the territory, the climate, and how they varied with those in the East. The President assumed that the Pacific Coast was portion of the Louisiana Procurements, however Lewis was in Washington in 1803(July), the United States’ acquisition of the Louisiana region was publicized. At the moment the voyage was even further significant. Lewis would be discovering acreage that fitted the United States (Neibaur, et al. 2003)
The President decided to send a small force because the small army was poised completely of unpaid assistant specialists, and it involved perhaps the largest skilled group of engineers and inspectors in the state.
The three objectives of the voyage were to pursue a watercourse to the Pacific, to crease facts upon the inhabitants and humanities that existed there and notify them that, they had a different master and lastly to pucker facts about the acreage, jungles, wilderness, foliage and animals. Seeking a waterway to the Pacific was the most important goal since it led to the exploration of the Louisiana region (Lewis, et al. 2002).
