Question One: The opinion presented by the independent registered public accounting firm used by Apple on its internal controls is based on the standards established under the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). The accounting firm indicated that Apple Inc. maintained an effective internal control system over its financial reporting as required by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO). The report further indicates that the management of Apple has the responsibility for its internal controls and has performed well in this respect over the financial year examined by the accounting firm.
Question Two: Under summary of significant accounting policies, Apple Inc defines cash equivalents to include al those investments of liquid nature having their maturities of below or equivalent to three months. In addition to the cash equivalents, the section also includes the marketable securities with the classification of the same and accountability revealing their availability for sale. The classification of the company marketable securities includes them under two groups with those of long-term and another group for those of a short-term basis.
