1 Describe each variable.
There are three variables illustrated in the dataset. These are year in school, days per week exercising, and number of sports played in high school. The descriptions for these variables are provided below.
1 A. nominal/ordinal/interval/ratio
Year in School represents and ordinal variable. This is because education level is categorized into different levels in the order of freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. Days per week exercising is a ratio variable which denotes the number of days between 0 and 7. Similarly, number of sports played in high school is a ratio variable representing the number of activities between 0 and 7.
2 B. qualitative/quantitative
Qualitative variables are categorical in nature hence provide no numerical information. On the other hand, quantitative variables describe the numerical information of an object. Year in School is a qualitative information. Both Days per week exercising and Number of sports played in high school, are quantitative variables because they provide numerical descriptions.
3 C. discrete/continuous?
Discrete variables are denoted using fixed number of values. Year in School is a discrete variable because values for education level are fixed in four categories namely freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. Accordingly, Days per Week Exercising is a discrete variable because there are fixed number of days in a week. On the other hand, continuous variables take on any possible values hence are infinite. Number of Sports played in High School is a continuous variable because there is no limitation in number of sporting activities.
2 What are the possible values of the variable?
Possible values of Year in School are freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior. Possible values for Days per week exercising are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6, and 7. The possible values for number of sports played in high school are 0, 1, 2, and 3 and so on.
3 What scores are represented in the data set?
Scores represented in the dataset for year in school are freshman, sophomore, junior and senior levels. Scores for Number of Days per Week Exercising are between 0 and 7 days. Accordingly, the scores represent for number of sports played in high scool aare 0 to 7.
