Project management is an art of project execution and management together with its deliverables with a scope of producing finished goods and services. A project can be handled and carried out from different angles within the organization, but its execution is the project management’s task. With the increased rate at which companies and organizations are changing presently, the demand generated for successful execution of projects within the confines of limited time, high quality and wider scopes is becoming a big challenge. Project management therefore has evolved to become very necessary or essential part of the organization without which organizational designs to meet its operational goals would difficult to manage.
During the course, many facts have surfaced especially concerning the areas where Project Management is a vital pillar supporting the organization. It is important to note that through the practice of Project Management, subsequent actions following the framework it lays out can be adopted or taken. Some of these subjects are:
* Value Management:- in the past, it was very difficult to measure the projects’ business value by different departments since they were part of a larger organizational initiative. An established Project Management Office evaluates the larger organizational initiates dividing it into different projects. The tangible and intangible evaluation can be ascertained from this position.
* Resource management:- through the project management, a vivid scope of the resources available for the utilization by the organization for different departments is determined. From this vantage point or central view, a strategic resource planning for effective and better utilization of resources is possible thro Project Management Office.
* Demand management:- organization may have several businesses which generate demand across the organization. An important duty of the Project Management arises in this situation where it serves as a central office capturing the demand and classifying them down operational, strategic and tactical demand. This goes a long way into preventing conflicts of priority between levels of projects \ departments (Arvind Rathore 2010).
* Through the course, a better understanding of project management centralised quality operations such as reporting, auditing and tracking have been adequately highlighted. These are operations for critical decision making for organizational steering while ensuring standard practices compliance.
In order to accomplish any project, the Project Management team must be well knowledged with the concepts and principles of operation together with how to accomplish targets within set boundaries or scopes. One of the major concept\ terms is "the schedule”. This is a term that can refer to an operating timetable within which activities and\ or events are executed. It is usually presented in many different formats such as on a time elapsed scale or a calendar framework highlighting vividly the activities sequences, start and finish times and the project durations, and other time-based project information. Grantt Charts are very important to this effect in the current practices of project management being recognized as the most widely used aids providing excellent tools to the survey in project management (Diana & Joyce 2002).
As a project manager, there should be a systematic approach to management of programs, projects and portfolio coinciding them with strategic goals achievement. Preparation and development of schedule becomes a vital task that must be incorporated in his\ her managerial skills. The manager will take the initiative to give the scope of the tasks to be accomplished and project timetable. His role in scheduling for the projects will largely determine the expectations the organization can expect in future.
