During the classical era, melody became the most important thing worth getting right. One finds that during this period, melody is perfectly done and it is also hummable. Melody brings about harmonized music or sequences of musically satisfying notes (Telesco, 1998). "Classic Man" is a song by Jidenna and Roman GianArthur. This is a hiphop song that is well crafted by Jidenna who is also the writer of the song. Jidenna is always freshly suited and he expresses his sleek persona through the "Classic Man" song. The song opens with an agile flow and weaves around relaxed vocals by Jidenna. The two singers balance each other well where Jidenna brings out suave while Lamar bringing the hype. In addition to bringing out the musicality in the song, the also bringing out their idea of what the classic man should look like (Mansfield, 2015).
Rhythm is strong repeated sound in the song and if one is looking for a good use of rhythm "Classic Man" is the song to consider. Jidenna has used one technique that is used even in poetry and this rhyme. "My name calling all night. I can pull the wool while I’m being polite”. In these two lines the last names are night and polite and the two words rhyme. Melody is a sequence of single notes that creates musicality in a song (Grout, Burkholder, & Palisca, 2006). One can easily harm the song from start to the end and that is how melody is brought about. The song does not use a lot of instruments like other music do. This song has a linear succession of musical tones and mostly in voices. These two singers know how to coordinate their voices and this has contributed to a smooth flow of the song. The two use different tones but still there is a smooth transition from one to the other.
Texture, involves the way rhythmic, melodic and harmonic materials have been combined. Instruments played in the music vary in pitch according to the voice being used. Whenever the singer is using a sharp tone, then the same is applied to the instruments. I would consider this song as having a thin texture where it has a few parts. However, this song has a polyphony texture where one can hear the main singer being backed by another singer.
This is a comical song and in case you come across the video you will know the idea of classic man being described by Jidenna. Jidenna was inspired by his father to write this song where he gained the idea of classic man (Mansfield, 2015). One is that he wore a three piece suit and walked with a stick. Where Jidenna grew up in, men cared about grooming as they were the leaders of the community. In addition, these men cared about character and this is what Jidenna thinks a classic man should be like.
