Given that information in a medical institution is critical, it is important to analyze the operational benefits to be derived from implementing electronic solutions in the healthcare industry (McGonigle and Mastrian, 2009). Through automation, patients' information and medical records can be collected, stored, managed and easily retrieved but consistency and accuracy must be at a high level to maintain effectiveness and efficiency. Why it is critical for nurses to be on the team? For a team to reliably evaluate a new CIS system in a hospital, all the processes that will be automated are to be critically examined and gauged on their importance or relevance (Clark, 2009). They may include; patient data and registration details, billing, scheduling, e-prescription and any other medical history. In the hospital setup, most of these procedures are carried out by nurses thereby making them crucial in the team. Likewise, nurses can understand better the extent at which the system has made operations easier and give feedback on the benefits the CIS has generated in their daily routine. Nurses will bring better analysis techniques to the team since they have complete understanding of what is to be implemented. Likewise, in selecting an appropriate CIS system they can choose one that is easily understandable and easy to integrate in the hospitals. Why it is important to choose and implement an effective CIS system? Choosing an optimal CIS system is also important because it will stabilize procedures undertaken in providing high quality safe care with minimal complications (McGonigle and Mastrian, 2009). After selection, flexibility is required to maintain high quality healthcare, therefore, a CIS system must be selected appropriately to adapt to future procedures that aim to improve quality safe care. Further, an effective system should be analyzed to establish its compatibility with the operations being undertaken in that specific hospital. Such a system can be easily understood and integrated into the hospital thus ensuring that quality healthcare is given to patients. Hence, it is important to select an appropriate system that will conclusively improve the general procedures while reducing inefficiencies. Traits and characteristics I posses that would add value to the team As a member of the planning team I am adaptable and flexible, a trait that will enable me to breakdown the project into realistic tasks with manageable deadlines. I also pay attention to detail that may be relevant in planning for the activities to be carried out by the team thereby meaning that I posses an essential skill of organization. Order is the key to planning and reduces instances of chaos (Clark, 2009). In addition, my ability to listen to others widens the democracy in the team and empowers each member to contribute in the activity to be carried out.
