Global Business Activities has forced companies to build or expand their offices in the various countries. To make the company Global, company faces various challenges .This requires the company to globalize the entire IT infrastructure and its Information Systems. This involves integrating the information globally into one flow of information which can be accessed worldwide from any part or any location. And this corporate global network will become a single knowledge storage system for all the global activities and information
Scope, ways to limit the scope and the justification to limit the scope:
Traditionally, globalization of companies needs were dependent upon the geographic regions to be included in the project. Since the costs, human capital, IT infrastructure and Information Systems were dependent on the geographic locations of the countries to be included. But with technology now, the life of everyone including IT networking people has changed and became much easier (STEPHENS 1998).The sales, delivery processes and production are all to be connected with one flow of information so that everything can be accessed from one point. And this network will become the one to support all the operations.
The scope of the project can be limited with the use of cloud based Manufacturing applications such as ERP or can implement cloud based applications across the companies since this help to limit the extra infrastructures required to manage the information systems. The Traditional Information systems used in the companies were not easy to implement and were also not easy to deal with. The IT team had to have deal with these heavy applications and this made their life tough. But with the latest technological trends life of these IT people has become much easier.
Risks, constraints and assumptions involved.
Implementing the IT infrastructure and maintaining its information systems across the world is not an easy task and involves various risks and constraints:
1 Choosing Right Technology:
While implementing the information systems across the nations, technology should be chosen very carefully. This not only includes choosing the right technology but also the implementation of the right technology.
2 Choosing Right Human resources:
Every employee is different and has different potential. Employing the right one at the right job is a constraint. Since employees are the ones those who are actually responsible for everything from choosing the technology to implementing the needs.
3 Choosing Right locations:
While choosing the location one has to be extra cautious .Implementations of offices across the nations needs the right choices of the locations. Right locations include availability of the resources and the bunch of opportunities for the business growth.
Needed Integration with other system and infrastructure requirement.
With expansion of the business, the company is planning to expand the offices in the various countries and this include integrating the IT networks all across the different nations and also maintaining them. Below are some of the integration needs:
1 Data Warehousing. This entails storing all the data of all the offices across the world at one single place. This is the single point huge data storage place where all the offices of the organizations across the globe can access the data from one single point. And this single stop way solution will provide the various offices to access the data at any point of time. Maintaining data at the data warehouse is very easy, helps to build transparency and reduces the cost associated with the relational databases.
2 Cloud technology. The technology is one of the most exciting technologies that came into existence. Cloud technology is the technology where the data is kept on the clouds on one big server which can be accessed virtually through internet (Columbus, 2014).As mentioned above, the data warehouse will be implemented with the cloud technology. Since the data is on one main server and can be accessed when required ,this helps to reduce the time required to main the data, costs required to maintain the data, and also increase the speed of the systems because of the less data storage at regional level.
3 Security. By the use of cloud computing technology and the virtualization of the data, security issues has to be addressed properly. The data on the servers can be attacked by the hackers .To reduce these risks, secured encryption of data is required. Highly secured firewalls and protocols are important for data security.
4 Network infrastructure. With the expansion of the business across the nations, the company has to expand its network from one country to different countries. To implement this network expansions different hardware needs to be installed and optical fibres to expand the intranet of the company are used.
Human Capital and their proper utilization:
To complete the project a team of experts has to be built and the structure is given below:
1 Infrastructure Administrator. He/she will be concerned with the administration of the entire infrastructure. The main duties under this role are to maintain the various network needs across different countries
2 Application Administrator .He/she will be responsible for the application development and support of the network.
3 Support Team. The team will include the various members who are required to work with infrastructure and application administrator as support staff.
Utilization of Resources.
Proper utilization of resources is to be made to build a strong network; the networks need to be fully conversant in order to satisfy the needs of the organizations. The managers and people involved to implement these must be specialists since it involves complex networking.
Outsourcing and offshoring needs of the project.
The business needs to outsource or offshore the project to achieve maximum profits while reducing costs .Settling new offices in different locations require the company to build or send a team out from their location, second is to build various employees in that location. The company also needs to hire other organizations to carry out some of its tasks as a method of cost reduction. Outsourcing the infrastructure to a different organization is cost efficient and time efficient. People at local locations are much aware of the surroundings and can help more in building infrastructure. Since locals have also the knowledge of market trends and hence they act as agent of cost reduction. Data collection can also be outsourced to various small companies.
