How Freud understands the Concept of "Narcissism"
Narcissism is a personality disorder as well as a psychological component. An inflated sense of self-importance primarily characterizes the condition. A narcissist has several traits, including a sense of entitlement, a propensity to denigrate others, and a marvelous attitude. Individuals suffering from the illness are more inclined to make disparaging remarks about others without feeling bad. Physical Characteristics
A narcissist personality disorder is inextricably linked to a person's physical appearance. According to Blass (2019, p. 1286), the phrase personality disorder is taken from Narcissus, a Greek character known for his pride despite his attractive features. However, Narcissus' arrogance led to his demise due to his obsessive emphasis on his physical appearance. He drowned due to a lapse in focus at the water's edge while too admiring himself. Sigmund Freud was one of many psychologists who identified with the story and identified narcissism as a critical personality trait (Shulman, 2018, p. 297).
