PHILIPPIANS 2:1-11
After reading Philippians 2:1-11, we learn a lot form this particular scripture but most of all is humility and unity. In the first scripture, verse 1-4, the Apostle Paul teaches us to have fruitful humility and follow Jesus' example. He furthermore continues to urge the Philippians to have brotherly love amongst themselves and also reminds them of the humility that Jesus Christ had when he walked on this earth.
Moving on if we read verse 5 all the way to verse 11, Paul wants the Philippians to hold their brother’s and sister’s in a higher regard than themselves. Just like Jesus Christ humbled himself to be human and die for man’s sins; so should the Philippians humble themselves to serve each other with modesty and love? In verse 9-11, Paul finally shows the Philippians how God glorified Christ and gave him power over all creation.
In summary what we can learn from this scriptures can be narrowed down to unity and selfness which are explained below:
Unity
Paul shows his concern with religious harmony. He constantly guides the Philippians as his younger brothers and sisters. He corrects and approves their behaviors and actions throughout the epistles.
Selflessness
Paul asks for unity among the Philippians. Paul rebukes some Philippians when they tend to express a sense of pride and arrogance. Nonetheless, Paul brings about his brotherly love by correcting their actions. Paul insists on humility as a way to achieve the unity that he wished for the Philippians. Finally Paul’s advices the Philippians to avoid holding their worth higher than those of their brothers and sisters.
