In the current global economy, the topic involving poverty, malnutrition and the different economic sectors is very controversial and a complex one. This fact is due to the view that privatization of resources as far as the fight against poverty and malnutrition is concerned. More so, the private sector is faced with many challenges and undefined roles in the fight against poverty and malnutrition. The private sector in the global economy can alleviate poverty in the developing countries. For instance, the private sector can tackle food security in response to addressing poverty and malnutrition in the developing countries. This fact is evident from the Tetra Pak’s Food for development program in Nigeria where the company produced food products and provided delivery services to some of the poor locals. Additionally, the private sector can use technology to address poverty by targeting food security. Major discoveries have been made in the food industry which has addressed the issue of food security. For instance, iodine in wheat is nutrient content which is needed in the developing countries. Through research and technological experiments, the nutritional value of wheat was improved through the increment of iodine content. The collaboration between the private sector and public sector is a major step in combating and alleviating poverty in developed countries. The private sector can pair with the public sector with similar objectives. They can provide financial support to the locals and introduce new technological innovations for assisting locals with their businesses while sharing new ideas. The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition is an organization which worked to pair the private and public sector.
Latin American Agribusiness Development Corporation, created to support private agricultural and agribusiness entities, is an example of private sector addressing poverty in the developing countries. The organization used new markets in assisting local people to meet their needs through availing opportunities. Other players in the private sector can follow LAAD to combat poverty in the developing countries. Through focusing on foreign exchange and rural jobs, productivity of the locals can be improved. LAAD sought out new markets for the local farmers. This move led the farmers to increase their productivity to meet the market’s demands. The private sector can also fund economic activities involving local people, hence, enhancing their market outreach. The private sector can directly or indirectly purchase equipment for the local and improve their business efficiency. By so doing, local people can have a platform of expanding their business activities, ultimately influencing their economic statuses. The stakeholders in the private sector can collaborate with the World Bank in undertaking their projects effectively. This move can be effective especially in matters that concern funding of projects.
