Executive Summary
As the first company to reach the unprecedented milestone of $1 trillion in market capitalization (Seitz, 2018), and with a presence in 134 countries around the global in 5 regions represented by Africa, Middle East, and India (38), Asia Pacific (15), Europe (37), Latin America and the Caribbean (39) and the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico (5) (Apple, 2018), Apple is a global company that represents an example of multinational success. The company has a product line that encompasses products and services represented by its iPhones, iPads, iPods, computers (Mac), software systems, iWatch, iTunes, Apple TV, digital content and services, and Apple Pay (Apple Form 10-K, 2018).
As a global company that utilizes a standardized approach to the productions of its hardware products that it customizes to local market using its proprietary software. This combination represents an approach that addresses the two forces under Bartlett and Ghoshal’s typology that consist of global integration using standardization for economies of scale, and the adaptation of their products to address local requirements customer’s expect. Bartlett and Ghoshal’s typology was investigated for Apple using Mintzberg’s Plan, Ploy, Position, Pattern, and Perspective, and the application of the global value chain.
