Aging, Dying/Death
Aging is the physical social and mental changes of people as they grow. The scientific study of aging is known as gerontology and involves the investigation of the psychosocial impacts of aging. As people grow, their body systems change with time. Their immunity become weak and prone to disease attacks, the skin show wrinkles. The heart becomes vulnerable to attacks and them generally independent. This can be well explained by the theories of aging.
The biological theories of aging try to explain the various aspects of the aging process. These theories include wear and tear, genetic, general imbalance and Accumulation theory. Wear and tear theory states that as one ages, the body cells wear out from the continued use. This explains the painful sexual experience at old age as the sexual organs become very inactive hence limited secretion of sex hormones. The genetic theory states that aging is programmed within a person’s gene. This is measured by the epigenetic clock that measures the age of cells. General imbalance states that the body systems such as the endocrine systems decline gradually hence ultimately fail to function. (Rebeca Gerschman et al., 1956) came up with a free radical theory of aging in which they stated that the radical reactions contribute to the failure of the body systems.
A successful aging can be achieved through continues participation in physical activities, social engagements and spiritual growth that ill lead to wellness. Life activities such as sex is very important for the aging persons as the activity lead to the burning of calories and free flow of blood to ad from the heart hence limiting diseases such as high blood pressure.
