Cuba is located in the North Caribbean Islands within the Caribbean Sea. It is surrounded by the Bahamas and Florida. Mostly, the Amerindian tribes were full in the country that was under the Spanish colony. In their attempt to strengthen their democratic system, they have met stiff opposition from dictatorial leaders including Fidel Castro (Collins, 1). Culturally, the country is considered a Latin American having people of multiethnic cultures and origins. It is run by a socialist system of government with most of their elected members serving for five-year terms (Collins, 12). The details of this paper are a view of what it is like to do business in the country. A summary of some major topics like available resources, government policies, the demographics, agriculture and social conditions. Such are major considerations for good business.
The country runs short of most natural resources. The natural resources that are in the country are the oceanic water bodies that surround it like Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Besides, they have records of minerals in the country. Cobalt, copper, and petroleum are examples of minerals that the country has and mines. The distribution of these resources is under the regulations of the government. The government has ensured that the resources are in proper use which does not harm the current generation. The future generations should also find it possible to use the same resources. That means destroying the resources is punishable by law. Measures include reducing environmental damage in the utilization of the same resources. The government, together with non-governmental organizations have policies that ensure resource use is not harmful to the environment. They also aim at solving the resources conflicts whenever they arise. Human resources that come to the country are accepted for use provided they are under the regulations of the laws.
The population and migration of the people in Cuba are essential for understanding the qualities that can influence business in a country. Knowing the population in the country helps to determine the demands and supply patterns in the market. According to the World Bank records (2016) the population of the country 11000000 with a gross domestic market of $ 77 billion in 2013. Most people had emigrated from the region because of the economic depression in the country the late 19th 20th Century and settled in neighboring countries. Wealthy residents chose to move to America before regulatory laws were to control the migrants getting to America (The World Bank, 2016). Because of immigration, the labor force decreased before but remaining relatively stable with respect to the size of the country and the available resources. At times, the people would seek illegal migration to settle in the nearby islands surrounding the country. Entering other countries could at times be difficult because of their guarded borders but for Cuba the laws were not rigid. To get into the country is easier than other nations.
With the population of Cuba, their agriculture and agrarian cultures are not varied. Reasons are because of the little resources they have. The conventional world agriculture includes what is done in developed countries like extensive and large scale farming. The subsistence type is done to earn what somebody can feed on and live daily. For the Caribbean region, agriculture is the major contributors to gross domestic product. The total contribution of their food exports accounts for 20% of their earnings. Cuba is one of the largest exporters in the region, together with Haiti and Dominican. For more gains, the country has settled on agricultural globalization in which they farm to sell to other nations around. Such is a move called the agrarian revolution. They sell specialized products to other world countries including sugar (Monzote, 31). Towards the end of 19th century, they reduced their sale of sugarcane because of the declining productions and rain patterns. On their windward islands, they have banana plantations that improve their earnings. They had associations that developed banana growing and selling, like Windward Banana Growers (Monzote, 34).
The population, resources and location of a country are important for business ideas. The individuals and their lifestyles would communicate much to the people who are planning to invest in business in the country. The level of human development and achievements can help show the type of businesses that is likely to thrive in an area (The World Bank, 2016). In doing so, they consider indicators of lifestyle differences like housing structures and location of the population. Their houses are concentrated in the coastal regions with a range from shacks to expensive residential.
Since their independence, their growth in social classes has changed with people living in the middle and upper classes increasing. Their consumption patterns are influenced by the neighboring communities like the Americans. Acquisition of large homes, clothing and automobiles for their use. Their social standing is not different because of the same origin, and it varies in class with the social settings are composed of family and are set up according to traditional and common law (Dora & Crammer, 56). With such set ups, they find it easy to implement the conditions established for the development and improvement of countries.
