The First World War was a war between two big blocs The Central Powers bloc -German, Austria and Italy- against the Triple Entente bloc - Britain, Russia, and France.
Causes of the war
Several factors led to the outrageous break of the First World War. Some were long-term whereas others were short-term. Long-term factors are believed to have been influenced by the Industrial Revolution, political and economic changes in Europe (Samson & Anne 2013).
However, the immediate cause of the world war one was the assassination of couple Archduke Franz Ferdinand (supposed to inherit the throne in Austria), and Sophie, his wife. This killing was done by Princip, a Bosnian student backed by the ‘Black Hand' organization. This action fueled the alliances that had already been formed. Austria quickly gained support from Germany who assured her support regardless of the turn of events. Russia, France, and Britain declared war on Germany (Strachan & Hew 2014).
Initially, American did not want to interfere with the European affairs in favor of the international policy of isolation, sensitive or not to annoy her citizens who were of German origin and also because the war had not directly interfered with her interests by 1916 (Samson & Anne 2013).
Several factors motivated the USA to join in the war; they included her people's sympathy on the Allies' side, German's secret telegram to the foreign minister, Zimmerman, to safeguard her business with the Allies and the entry to war became inevitable when German a British passage ship with American citizens (Strachan & Hew 2014).
