The Mental Status Exam is a psychiatric evaluation that examines the mental functioning and behavior of a person. There are major domains that form part of the evaluation that include: reality testing, emotions, sensory perceptions, speech, mental capacities, appearance, and thought (Soltan & Joseph, par 2). While all these domains are important, there are those that are more important than others during a Mental Status Exam.
