Overcoming racism
The main speaker of the racism forum was MayKao Hung Keynote. She is the president and C.E.O. of Wilder Foundation. Her primary aim is trying to achieve equity and social justice for all no matter what their race is. The event was held at the Metropolitan State University, Saint Paul, MN on November 14-15, 2014 and it lasted slightly over an hour. During the talk’s duration, the speaker was to give her talk for about forty minutes and then give a chance to the attendees to ask questions.
The talk was meant to create awareness of overcoming racism in society and institutions. Racism has crippled our society and the numerous fight towards have not been much fruitful. Thus, the talk was meant to encourage all of us in the momentum to dismantle racism in our society. It was through this that we are going to live a day when a talk like this will not be necessary as we would have achieved one of the greatest obstacles to mankind.
The speaker also pointed out that overcoming racism will be achieved when every individual moves beyond their comfortable space. This is because, we as human beings, created racism thus it is us who are going to destroy it. Racism is going to be eliminated when we extend our hand to lift each other up and thus help in generating solutions of how we can overcome this barbaric act. Standing together surpasses any race and thus it should not matter if you are White, Black, Asian or Native American.
Racism is used as a way of prejudicing certain group in the society in a particular way. For instance, the colored people are viewed as low-income earners, criminals and lack the aspiration to succeed. This is not true as there are a high number of them who are highly educated. However, they may lack employment opportunities due to racism.
According to MayKao research, Whites know they have privileges that other races groups do not have. Most of them are racially conscious while other are half racially. The group that is racially conscious is trying it...
