Social Life Development
Social life can be very delicate depending on how a person takes it. There are issues that when taken lightly have no impact at all, but strong consideration of the same questions are revealing complexity in the long run. The social orientation of a person will determine a lot of things in their future life. This paper shows a personal development due to exposure to certain issues in the class context as well as the outside world.
Section 1
In paper number one, I stated that: "I think the current generation should not be held accountable for the past acts of discrimination on which they indirectly engaged”. This statement represents my growth toward cultural competence because it recognizes and appreciate the fact that treating other people by the wrong done to their relatives or race a long time ago is not good. The present generation has got no blame to carry because they are innocent from all perspectives.
The simple and inevitable fact that their lineage had wronged the then society does not qualify them to carry the cross. The following are some of the statements that best justify my view of growth towards cultural competence: first, "Similarly, holding the current generation accountable for past discrimination and other atrocities without substantive claims is irrational”. Secondly, "Race is only a biological variation that distinguishes aspects such as hair colour, brain capabilities, and athletic ability among others”. Thirdly, "Discrimination raises the risk of emotional and physical problems such as stress, depression, cardiovascular diseases, breast cancer, and mortality" and lastly, "African Americans and the Hispanics are not accorded same respect as their white counterparts when seeking medical care”. All these statements criticise discrimination based on racial alignment, hence justifying my growth towards cultural competence.
In paper number two, I stated that "On a personal level, I have learned that it is possible to engage in racial or social-economic stereotyping based on previous beliefs and assumptions regarding people from varied backgrounds”. This statement demonstrates my turning point as far as discrimination and stereotyping are concerned. Initially, this did not cross my mind as I had been brought up in a standard setup that comprises majorly of one race until I travelled to the United States for further studies.
The following are examples of statements that supports the turning point argument: first, "Generalizations and assumptions affect the treatment caregivers offer to people from the varied racial groups. "Secondly, "Generalizations and assumptions affect the treatment caregivers provide to people from the diverse ethnic groups." Lastly, "Overtime, however, I developed an explicit dependence and allowed myself to accept the American culture”. These statements give clear explanation towards the turning point argument.
In paper three, I stated that "Most of the developed and peaceful countries are not those with a high level of income but equality”. This statement demonstrates my growth towards cultural competence because of the element of balance. Indeed where equality exists, there is no strive for superiority in the activities that are being done. People understand the roles of one another and by this, actions flow harmoniously.
Equality wholesomely brings satisfaction and happiness in a country or society because discrimination or stereotyping has been eradicated. The statements below further justify the argument of growth in cultural competence regarding equality. First, "Inequality affects the right judgment of individuals belonging to certain community through the damage of association." Secondly, "Most of the developed and peaceful countries are not those with a high level of income but equality”. Thirdly, "The first ones believe that they get what they vehemently sweat for and that the second ones do not like working. The unfortunate believe that the rich harbour them from amassing wealth besides their class grabbing what belongs to them. It creates mistrust between the two classes”. Lastly, "For instance, it has been proved that many various communities have approximately fifteen percent of the population that can trust others. However, in same ones, about sixty-five percent of the population can believe their counterparts”. These statements are clear justifications of the argument of my growth towards cultural competence.
In paper four, I stated that "In an attempt to improve this brochure, I would first ensure that all the sentences, and the general language used, are appropriate for a sixth grade or below." This statement supports my growth towards cultural competence because it tries to bridge the gap between individuals of low intellectual ability and those of high ability regarding the level of education. An advert, in this case, the brochure, can always be misinterpreted due to the use of words and graphics.
Although the catalog seemed to be a simple one, the independent individuals who reviewed it got some flaws that required improvement for the betterment of the pamphlet. The following are some of the statements supporting the argument of my growth towards cultural competence: to begin with, "He thought that the booklet should have informed the audience whether or not many opticians have adopted the Opt map technology, and even go ahead to list optical companies that have already embraced this technology”. Secondly, "However, just like the first respondent, he wanted to know some of the places where this technology is already being used" lastly, "However, respondent ‘B’ argued that if the brochure were targeting 6th-grade students, it would have made more use of pictures to enhance meaning." These statements are directly supporting my argument of growth towards cultural competence.
Section 2
The semester has been filled with very useful topics and discussions as well as presentations regarding video programs. These have greatly influenced my perception of equality issues that initially had proved challenging. They presented a real life situation of which some have been part of my life but some I have heard through friends. The piece that made the great impact in changing my general view of the so...
