Question 1
What language do you use the most? (Choice one)
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) protects employees from being discriminated against. The Commission lists language as one of the basis under which an employee may be discriminated. For instance, asking a person to state the language they speak often has the connotation of distinguishing them from a large pool; since various groups of people speak divergent languages.
Question 2.
Colour (Choice 2)
Under the laws enforced by EEOC, it is unlawful to discriminate against an individual (whether seeking employment or employed) on the basis of the person’s colour. Further, it is illegal to retaliate against someone if they complained about discrimination on the basis of colour. An employer should therefore not use neutral employment policies that will favour some group of people at the expense of others.
Question 3.
Preserving access to the legal system (Choice 3)
While preserving access to the legal system is a mandate of the EEOC, it is not a priority area. The priority is to ensure that employers do not use prohibited employment policies and practices to target the minority groups or individuals based on their race, colour, national origin, sex and age. The commission also prohibits an employer from putting into practice policies that have negative impacts on people seeking employment or who are already employed.
