1 The map’s purpose is to identify the physical features in Africa. It specifically identifies various mountains in several countries and the elevation of Africa which is highlighted in the Key and the map title.
2 It was necessary for the map to be included because it is helpful in displaying important physical features (Mountains) and also shows the elevation of various parts of Africa.
3 The type of projection used in the map is Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area Projection. The area of the actual ground is preserved on the map (area is equal) and the figure has minimal distortion hence is useful in representing an actual area covered by the physical features.
4 The map uses a small scale. The use of a small scale is most helpful in this map. It makes it possible to represent the large geographical area of Africa on a piece of paper and display the needed features without missing out some areas that are on the actual ground.
