The Healing Power of Placebos
1. Why are placebo-controlled studies commonly used?
The main reason for conducting a placebo-controlled research is to identify its effects and be accountable for it e.g. treatment effects that are not dependent on the treatment itself. Some of the factors considered are: identifying the patient on placebo treatment, having an attention from the relevant health professionals as well as the expected results by the researchers. The treatment cannot be considered to have any effect if it is not compared with a placebo group (Paul 94).

Also, lack of expectation to get better by the patient also contributes to more and more negative reactions from the non-placebos medication (Paul 94).
3. In what type of study do you think placebos should never be used?
