ABSTRACT
The Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies played a very significant role in money lending to their members, especially in the early days of their inception in 1973 in Kenya. Since then, Saccos growth has resulted from high demand for credit facilities both for investment and consumption. However reform programs in the financial sector that started in the late 1990s such as liberalization have resulted into increased competition from other financial service providers. This situation has posed a threat to Saccos including the Kenya Police Sacco, in terms of the level of credit uptake from Sacco by the members as well as their customers. Information available reveals that Kenya Police Sacco has given significant attention to credit uptake factors such as; increased provision of Customer Information, diversifying credit product, credit cost variation and improved Customer services; for the period 2009 to 2014; with expected tremendous increase in their credit uptake level. Despite the application of significant resources to this uptake factors, there is no significant improvement in level of credit uptake at the Kenya police Sacco. The purpose of the study is to analyze credit uptake factors on Kenya Police Sacco. The specific objectives of this study is; to establish Customer Information on credit uptake level, analyze the effect of variety of credit product on credit uptake level, and examine the cost of credit product on credit uptake level and to analyze customers’ service on credit uptake level. The study will be guided by the conceptual frame work showing the variables relationship. The target population for the study is 40,101 which include both staffs and non-staff members that take credits from the Sacco. The study will use quantitative descriptive statistical method and inferential research design in a case of Kenya Police Sacco to analyze the relationship between dependent and independent variable. A sample size of 380 members will be selected by the use of stratified random sampling technique. The study will use primary data from the Sacco. The study will use structured questionnaires to collect primary data from individual Sacco members for the five variables. A pilot study will be done to pretest validity and reliability of data and data collection tool, then data cleaning technique will be used to clean the data. Ordinary least square (OLS) will be used to analyze the relationship between dependent and independent variables. The findings of the study will be presented by the use of figures, tables’ charts and diagrams. The outcome of this study will provide more empirical information on credit uptake factors in Kenya; providing a basis for which the policy will be formulated to solve the problem low credit uptake in Sacco Societies in Kenya; The findings will be used to access the exten...
