Babycakes’ Budget
Question 1
Budgeting is concerned with Babycakes’ implementation of their long-term plan for the year ahead (Drury, 2012). This part of the paper is going to discuss why having a budget will benefit the owner of Babycakes better than having no budget at all.
The budgeting process ensures that Babycakes' owner plans for future operations and that they consider how conditions in the next year might change and what steps they should take now to respond to these changed conditions (Drury, 2012). With a budget, the owner will know how much raw materials to buy, what price to buy them at, and what quantities to use when making red velvet cakes.
Through the budget, the owner communicates her expectations to her supervisors, so that all employees understand these expectations and can coordinate their activities to attain them (Drury, 2012). For example, by informing employees that they are baking 1 500 red velvet cupcakes for Valentine’s Day, employees will be ready for a business day which is busier than normal and requires twice the effort from them.
