The visual art course has prepared me in the world of work by enabling me to acquire vital employability skills as well as the capability to think for myself, the skills to effectively communicate and the ability for lifelong learning. I became an open-minded and creative person who involve in various opportunities in the society. I developed my interpersonal skills, which have helped me get along with people and various stakeholders in different organizations. I gained creative skills that have helped me to put my knowledge into practice in creative applications and community participation. I have gained transactional skills, which enable me to identify and address problems through creative thinking and planning using art techniques.
I performed excellently in this course, but initially I find it rather difficult because of the broad units. Initially, I find it challenging to analyze broad issues in this course. I get used it through support from my classmates and lecturers. After few months, I realized that the art course was full of fun. I became aware that when I relate its contents to the real world, it becomes more practical and thus interesting.
In this western art course, I did units such as the renaissance art (Proto-renaissance, Early renaissance, High renaissance, Northern renaissance and Mannerism art); post renaissance art (Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, and realism art); modern art (Impressionism, Post-impressionism, Colourism, Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract expressionism, and Pop art); and contemporary art (Postmodernist painting, Postmodernist sculpture, Avant-garde painting). I enjoyed participating in these units, and I performed well in the course. Art students are always expected to create art projects in studios and take them for exhibitions. Working on art projects in studios and exhibitions are vital tasks, although participation and creation of such artwork in these places require students to have financial support. I have seen it challenging to some of our students including me who failed to raise sufficient funds for carrying out these artwork projects in studios and exhibitions. We are in a period when we are continuously reminded that there is the lack of graduate jobs and opportunities and even the government nowadays cuts funding of the art courses and projects. I think that art courses are still important in the society, and they should be supported financially. I suggest that art students should also get financial aid to enable them conduct their art projects effectively without facing financial constraints.
Measures of future effect of what I will have learned can be evaluated through industrial attachments, internship opportunities and professional fields, which I will attend. Attending tests and exams throughout this course have helped to assess my academic performance and seek to improve on the weaknesses identified. Concerning the issue of lack of graduate jobs in current the labor market; at present period, people are uncertain of undertaking visual art course. I can say that this is not simply an art course; it is an e...
