Based on Audrey Niffenegger’s best-selling novel of the same name, The Time Traveler’s Wife is a romantic drama that details the lives of two ill-fated lovers who are unable to be at the same place at the same time. The time traveler, Henry DeTamble is involuntarily shuttled randomly through time to the future, present and past. Henry can disappear for long periods at a time, thus injuring their relationship.
The film presents viewers with a paradox when Clare and Henry are introduced for the first time, Henry meets Clare then the movie moves on to when Clare meets Henry. The scene is presented non-linearly as the storyline moves from the past straight into the future. Henry does not recognize Clare when he meets her as an adult, however, she instantly remembers her from their encounter when she was a child. The film’s storyline is non-chronological as the story progresses through different periods in time while maintaining its structure.
